Back To The Filler

I went on a rant about the reading order of "First Contact" the other week, and declared that I would not review Worlds' Finest #21 part 4 of the First Contact story, until Batman/Superman #9 which is part 3 came out on April 23rd.  Well I look like an idiot now that a new Worlds' Finest is out, and I have no idea what happened in the last issue.  How the fuck can this issue be out before Batman/Superman #9?  It's fucking ridiculous, and I won't be suckered into reading the last issue until the First Contact story is complete.  I made a stand, and I don't plan on backing down from it now.  So for this month's Worlds' Finest, I'm going to try and get through the story, and probably make some assumptions along the way.  So bare with me, and we'll get through this thing together.  Let's dive in, and see if the crossover did anything to move this book forward.
Explain It!:

We'll jump into this issue from what I can assume is right after the "First Contact" storyline, and Power Girl and Huntress are standing in the rubble of what was the citadel of Kaizen in New Gammora.  From what I can ascertain our two heroes were shown a doorway into Earth 2, but whatever they did to Kaizen, and this citadel last issue destroyed the technology that caused it.  So as you can assume Power Girl is pissed, especially because when they looked into their world they saw the raging murderous Superman of Earth 2, and Karen believes that Clark needs her help.  Huntress on the other hand doesn't buy it.  Earth 2 at present time doesn't resemble anything that they called home five years ago, and she's not certain that the world they were shown is actually their world at all.  This bit of arguing is interrupted though when ARGUS soldiers show up to claim Kaizen's technology.  For some reason these soldiers aren't familiar with Power Girl and Huntress, and the soldiers believe them to be New Gammora resistance.  Lousy ARGUS has one job, and it's to deal with super humans, you'd think they would of done their homework and know of these two heroes, right?  So a firefight ensues, and our heroes quickly take the soldiers down, even a tank, and take the information they need from New Gammora to determine if what they were shown was really their world.

Well it looks like we have some important plot happening so let's completely put a stop to that, and go to a flashback to almost four years prior, that for what I can see has no bearing on the current story what so ever.  So when Huntress was first starting out as a vigilante on our main world, she tried to take out some no-goodnik hunters in the Appalachians, who were participating in human sex trafficking.  Huntress was careless though, and got herself knocked out and tied to a tree outside. Once she came to, she fought off a hungry wolf, set the cabin on fire, and kicked the shit out of the hunters.  Luckily none of the girls were killed with her form of justice.  That is all, time to get back to the actual story.  Nonsense.

Power Girl drops Huntress off at one of her safe houses in Chicago, and she gets to analyzing the data they stole from New Gammora.  While Huntress is busy with that, Power Girl flies around day dreaming about how cute Kaizen was for a madman, and when she gets back to her company she tells her lawyers to sell everything except for a lab, because she has big plans for it.  Man this storytelling is strange.  In the end Huntress gets the information she needed to convince her that what they saw last issue was indeed Earth 2, and now our two heroes plan on finally going home.

Bits and Pieces:

Even though I still don't know what happened in "First Contact" because I refuse to read the ending until Batman/Superman #9 comes out, all I've heard is that it was awful.  This is so disappointing because I was hoping that that crossover event would inspire these characters to be more than just bantering girls, with no direction.  But here we are again with what feels like a filler issue, because it takes an entire story for them to come to one conclusion, and it's even broken up with a flashback to something that has nothing to do with the story.  I really want this title to be good, but reading it each month is becoming harder and harder.

4/10
