Mirror, Mirror

Flash #31 continues the time jumping, reality changing story of Barry Allen, Wally West and in this issue, Mirror Master.  Robert Venditti and Van Jensen have been getting better and better as they settle into the book and Brett Booth's art is always fantastic.  This issue continues the intriguing mystery of the future, the fun balance of CSI and Hero work in the present and a little more Wally West to boot.  The big picture may still be a little fuzzy, but I am enjoying the ride.

Present day Barry is on the scene and doing his best to impress Director Singh.  Unfortunately, he finds out that nothing is faster than social media.  He may already be running himself ragged (pun intended), but he still agrees to help Wally as a favor to Iris.  He's good like that.

Meanwhile, future Flash is dealing with Mirror Master.  Yep, the Rogue is up to no good.  Luckily for everyone, Flash is trying to stop all the wrongs he let slip by and this is one of them.  Lucky for the people, not for Mirror Master.

Back in the present, Barry continues to wonder why time is slipping away when he's late to meet Wally and Iris.  So much has been said about the new Wally and personally I thought he was a little jerk.  Venditti and Jensen start the turnaround here with a big assist from Brett Booth.  Wally is still a bit of a jerk, but they way Booth draws him gives you a sense of the insecurity behind his rage.

The ending will break a few hearts and I really am afraid for what is promised in next issue.  Future Flash may be trying to make things right, but he is leaving a wake of destruction everywhere he goes.  Something has got to give soon.

Brett Booth nails this book.  Every page looks great and I'm not sure how he has the time for such detail. Speaking of detail, I loved the Blue Lantern shout out.  Barry better watch out or Hal might get jealous.

Bits and Pieces:

Flash #31 was a great combination of everything I already love about Venditti and Jensen's Flash.  The CSI work, the intriguing future mystery, Wally West and a mix of action and humor.  Brett Booth's art is icing on the cake, but it's a hell of a tasty icing.  I am really enjoying this book and can't wait for next month's issue.
