Under the Sea

Whenever the usual dark fare gets me down, I can always turn to the Tiny Titans for a smile.  They are so cute and fun and the all ages tag really goes for any fan from three to three hundred (which is how old I feel lately).  Art Baltazar and Franco have won me over with their little, but dead on characterizations of my favorite DC characters just trying to finds a new Treehouse.  Unfortunately, on their whirlwind tour of the DCU they haven't managed to find it, but they have gotten into a few adventures and received plenty of fist bumps.  This month they travel to the underwater kingdom of Atlantis and as usual it's outrageous fun.

I have been waiting for this issue for one reason...Lagoon Boy!  I love him and he doesn't disappoint.  Just tell Robin that he's not called "Ocean Boy".  We also get to visit Batgirl in her home and it points out my favorite thing in this series.  I love when the Tiny Titans interact with the adults, superhero or not.  Of course, visiting Batgirl also means seeing Commissioner Gordon.  Art Baltazar and Franco get so much out of pure silence from him when they let him know they are heading off to Atlantis.  It's hilarious.  Then we get an awesome Gordon-Batman fist bump.

They head off with Lagoon Boy and Aqualad (another personal favorite) to find Atlantis and after running into Topo, they meet Aquaman and Black Manta.  Let that sentence sink in because it's awesome.  Meanwhile, Miss Martian, Beastboy and Offspring are hot on their tail and are hilarious.  Beastboy is just pure entertainment wherever and whenever he shows up.

In the end, they get a new Treehouse, but unfortunately it's underwater and it's time to get home for dinner.  I guess they'll be back next month to continue the search.  Not a surprise, but who cares when your having this much fun.

Art Baltazar and Franco know what they are doing.  Every month they us an all ages book that never talks down to the reader no matter their age.  This is a book I can genuinely recommend to anyone without giving it a second thought.  The art and story blend into a total package of fun.

Bits and Pieces:

Tiny Titans: Return to the Treehouse #4 is another great chapter of a book that is just pure fun.  We get a whose who of the DCU in a family friendly, all ages book that everyone can love.  This month we travel to Atlantis and while it's a different location, it's the same great time.  Highly Recommended.

  1. While it might seem like an overly simple outlet for an adult, Tiny Titans is a way to relax the mind and laugh for awhile.

    1. I so agree. After a month of dark and gritty, I look forward to a fun visit from the Tiny Titans. It's charm is it's simplicity, but it never talks down to the reader and is a great introduction to the DC characters. It's my 8 year old's favorite book and it makles me smile that he now knows who Aqualad and Lagoon Boy are.
