Kicking Religion In The Throat

Last chapter of Arrow Season 2.5 we saw Arrow find the secret headquarters of the new Brother Blood, but like most things in Arrow's life, it didn't go smoothly.  On top of all that Diggle decided that he'd secretly go back up our hero, but he let some simps get the best of him and was clobbered by a baseball bat.  This really doesn't bode well for our team Arrow member because Brother Blood has had it in for Diggle and Felicity since the end of Season 2 of the show because they embarrassed him by capturing and interrogating the former body guard of Sebastian Blood and now that he's the one in power, he plans on getting some payback.  So Diggle's captured, Arrow's fighting off a ton of religious nut jobs and it seems that Brother Blood has a mirakuru soldier chained up in the basement and wants to recreate the power of the soldiers in his faithful....... Which can't be good for anybody.  Let's check out what this chapter has in store for us.

Explain It!:

Our story begins with Brother Blood sicking his zealots on Arrow and almost pulling his mask off, but then what kind of hero would he be if he  couldn't take out a bunch of religioned up winos?  This bit is kind of funny to me because while the pack of nut jobs are trying to take Arrow down, Brother Blood is going on about how you can't trust someone in a mask...........  Is this irony or did Brother Blood simply not consider himself wearing a mask?  So our hero sets off a smoke arrow and makes his escape.

Now I don't know if Brother Blood is a speedster here or if he has secret tunnels to get him places real fast or if we're not really seeing a time gap here, but right after Arrow escapes, it seems that Blood's all ready to enact some vengeance on Diggle.  Luckily Arrow sees his friend being taken into a back room and decides to throat kick Brother Blood before any vengeance goes down and they get of there before Hogue comes to and more of his Blood Brothers join the party.

The two find a ladder leading to the surface, but when they make it to the street, somehow Huntress, who's freshly out of jail is waiting for them and it looks like she wants some revenge for Arrow sending her to prison.  That's it for our Arrow portion to the story, but luckily for those who hate when a book is finished we have a backup.

In the end we see Amanda Waller discussing the present situation in Kahndaq to the other high ups at ARGUS.  You see Khem-Adam is the leader of a religious group called "The Onslaught" that is trying to reclaim the ideology of times past, hence his kidnapping of the girls from that school a couple issues ago because they were trying to have more of a life than simply being a wife and a mother.  So what are we going to do about these extremists?  Why we're going to send in the Suicide Squad in to straight up murder his ass to send a message to his followers that he's not immortal and he definitely isn't a god.  Hopefully this goes alright and we don't actually see a realized Black Adam in the Arrow/Flash Television universe, because while the Squad are masters of mayhem and murder, I don't think they could take on the world's meanest mightiest mortal.

That's it for this chapter of Arrow Season 2.5 and while the main story is kind of losing me because of all it's different directions it seems to want to go, I'm all aboard for the Suicide Squad backup.  There was just something enticing here even if it was only Amanda Waller explaining the situation and eventual remedy to Kahndaq.  See you in two weeks as we continue our preseason 3 adventure of Arrow.  See you then.

Bits and Pieces:

As usual, the art in this book continues to be spot on and really does it's finest to convey these characters for the paneled page.  But the story on the other hand seems to be all over the place showing multiple stories and not hanging on one long enough to really get us hooked.  It's still fun to read and look at, but it could do more to really immerse us in the world of Arrow.  The highlight for me here was the short backup about the Suicide Squad's return and their mission to Kahndaq.  It's complete exposition but it really intrigues me to see the story that will come from it.

7/10
