Fear The Future

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

Now with the rest of the Lantern books, I wrote this whole thing about how I hoped they were taking some time off or doing something that was more personal instead of jumping back into an adventure, but that's pretty much useless here because I know that Sinestro wouldn't take time for himself.  So it's adventure ahoy as we jump into another issue of the Fear Lanterns cruising through the universe in search of more Korugarian survivors.  Let's check out this issue and see what's going down in the Universe when you let Fear guide you.

Explain It!:

This issue begins and shocks the hell out of me because with all the GODHEAD action going on the last three months, I completely forgot about "The Paling"..... You remember, that Necromonger like cult that's been going around the Universe trying to purge it of emotion..... So yeah, they're still around and apparently still doing Paling stuff......... So yeah....... They really have no bearing on this issue so I won't talk about them anymore.

The real story of the issue begins with Sinestro and a handful of his Lanterns going off to find a distress signal that was supposed to be sent out by a bunch of Korugarians looking for Sinestro's help........ Yeah, that should have been a clue that something wasn't right from the get go.  Sinestro finds the Korugarians but they are all dead and after seeing that they wasted away due to them being affected by a Black Mercy flower that kept them in a hallucinogenic state.  After seeing the flower, Sinestro knows who is calling him out............ and man did it throw me because I wasn't certain if it was still canon or not but apparently Mongul still wants the Sinestro Corps for himself.

In the end, Sinestro and Lyssa Drak go to Warworld to confront Mongul and after kicking his ass pretty hard, even though Mongul has some sort of yellow energy drainer that is siphoning off Sinestro's ring's power, the ass kicking turns out to be a back and forth thing because Mongul isn't alone.

As we leave this issue we see that the Apex League is on Warworld and as we know from reading Sinesto's Futures End tie-in, this is the League that will leave Sinestro imprisoned Five Years From Now......... hopefully we see them die soon so that we know the future is being rewritten.

That's it for this issue of Sinestro and I'm happy as hell to know that Mongul being apart of the Sinestro Corps is still canon.  The biggest problem with the New 52 is that some histories were tweaked while others were completely rewritten and some were let be completely........ It's just knowing which of these these goes with each character that's the problem... So yeah, Mongul and Sinestro Corps intact.  It was a great bad ass fight and this issue sets us up for the continued Paling and possibly what the future holds for Sinestro.  Add this to the great art of Brad Walker and we have ourselves a really enjoyable issue.  The only drawback is that there is so much story going on from the Paling, Mongul, The Apex League, the search for Korugarians, to Sinestro's infatuation with the New God Bekka, that I'm not sure how it will all play out together.  I just hope that this series doesn't stretch itself too thin.

Bits and Pieces:

All in all this is an enjoyable issue that throws a lot at you.  We're seeing Sinestro get back to business after GODHEAD but there are so many stories going on here that I'm afraid that too much might happen too soon.  I really enjoyed the art and the inclusion of plot elements that we saw in Sinestro's Futures End tie-in.  Go get yourself some fear.

7.8/10
