The Flash Season 1 episode 11 "The Sound and the Fury" Review

Pied Piper?

Time to head back to our Scarlet Speedster and this week we have another rogue enter the Flarrowverse! This week we have the reveal of the Pied Piper, who has come to Central City to exact revenge on Harrison Wells. As much as I was excited to see the Pied Piper, this wasn't what I was hoping to see. Don't get me wrong, I liked the episode, but this kid was not the Pied Piper I read about in the Flash Comics. Other than that, the episode was a very interesting tale with a few moments that had me excited for the coming episodes. However we aren't here talking about the future, we are here to talk about this episode. Enough with the dawdling let's get started.

Characters
There are some great character moments throughout the episode, specifically with Harrison Wells. With his "chosen one" returning, many truths behind the particle accelerator opened up. We knew that it was no mistake the device failed, but now we learn that someone actually knew the chance of it's failure. Thats right. Our villain of the episode, Hartley Rathaway, knew the risk, and now hes back in Central City, ready to kill in his pursuit of vengeance. This is where the episode lost me on their villain. To those who don't know, Hartley is the Pied Piper in the comics. The Pied Piper is a rogue, but isn't as rogue-ish. If you had to describe him, it would be a thieving vigilante. In this episode, he is turned into a psychopath willing to murder to achieve his goals. His goals to reveal Wells' carelessness is fine, perfect motivation to the Piper! However, he is willing to flat out murder people to get what he wants. That is NOT the Piper I have read about. If he comes back, I hope he learns what he did was wrong so we can get the Piper we deserve. Also I hope he comes back with a flute, because the hand blasts did not feel like him. It felt more like Vibe. COME ON CISCO! TAKE THOSE GLOVES FOR A RIDE!

Story
As far as plots go, this one is a very simple one. That does not mean it is bad, it is just very simple. The plot revolves around Hartley getting his revenge on Wells'. In that little revenge plot however, we see how Hartley affected our STAR scientists lives. Besides being Wells' effect on the Particle Accelerator, we learn that Cisco was Hartley's rival when he first started at STAR LABS. It was nice to see why Wells' hired Cisco when he had that "brilliant" Hartley. Another thing I enjoy(and this is the show in general) how they bring science to a form in their episodes. The way they explained how a man with vibration gloves could be. People usually take the Rogues seriously due to their silly names. However, just like Cold and Heatwave, Piper is just as dangerous, if not more. This made Flash's final battle with him a little more scary. Of course he comes out fine, thanks to Wells, but it was also a smart way of beating Hartley as well. There was also an incident with Wells halfway through the episode, and when I saw what the explanation was in the last scene, it made me pumped for the future.

Final Verdict
In the end, I enjoyed the episode. It had good action, and some good character moments for our heroes. The only thing I can complain about is the "Pied Piper", who only represents the character in name. The final scene with Harrison Wells left me imagining the possibilities for not just HIS future, but for the future of the show ITSELF. If you enjoy a good Scarlet Speeding, but don't know much care about certain interpretations of villains, check this episode out!

That's it for my Flash review! What did you think of this weeks episode? What did you think of this review? Leave a comment and I'll see you next time!
