Like Futures End, this story is coming to a close and I guess the future can't be rewritten because I don's see anyway that this world will do anything but end.  Last issue we saw our Superman heroes go into orbit and try to fight off the encompassing masses that threaten to devour Earth and Green Lantern became Captain Planet when all the powers of the Parliament combined into him so that he could be Earth's savior............ Oh and Batman and Huntress found Oliver Queen and the only thing he had from Bruce was a history of Earth-2 and a digital ark of all it's creatures......... kind of makes what Red Tornado is doing in the Worlds' Finest title kind of pointless but that's what happened.  Let's get into this issue and see if our heroes have a prayer in saving their world.

Explain It!:

Our story begins with Huntress, Batman and Oliver Queen showing up at "Atom's Haven" and finding out about Brainwave commandeering a ton of the survivors of Earth-2 and a bunch of their escape ships.  Yeah, he intends to save the people and once they find a suitable place to live, be the ruler of their new world.......... Yeah, that's super villain enough for me.  During this time Dick Grayson makes his way into Brainwave's............ congregation?  Well, he's sure as hell preaching and Dick finds his son under the control of the villain.  Now we're not given a real explanation about why Dick is immune to Brainwave's control but that really doesn't matter to me because out of nowhere Dick's son is named Tommy again instead of Johnny.  I'm not sure why Dick is all concerned about where is son is because evidently he can't remember his damn name.  Just when I think this title is going to turn around it goes and does something completely out of left field to make me lose all interest in it again......... Yeah, I know it's just a name flub, but if the writers don't care enough about the characters to get the names right then why should I care?  All of this nonsense is broken up though when Batman and Huntress come in and take Brainwave out and we actually see one of the best pages I've ever seen in this series........ Check it out.

While all this is going on, Big Barda and Kalibak are going after the rest of the survivors of Earth while Apokolips devours the planet and we find out that Barda isn't shit when Jimmy Olsen shows up and uses his powers to......... Well, it looks like he just makes her armor disappear and Barda is completely defeated.  We get a big reveal though when Kalibak goes after Jimmy and after beating the boy about the face, we find out that Jimmy Olsen is now a New God.  Up in space, we also find out that Mister Terrific, Fury, Sandman Mister Miracle and Terry Sloan survived the ship's explosion last issue and it's all due to the ship's extra dimensional camouflage that made another dimension's ship show up in it's place and take the assault............. So yeah, those heroes.......... and Sloan are all still kicking.

In the end, our heroes in "Atom's Haven" have secured the stolen ships and Commander Sato instructs our Superman heroes to go after Apokolips itself to give them enough time to start their evacuation of Earth.  It's also here where we see that the powers of Earth aren't shit because Green Lantern is completely spent and it looks like he didn't do much.

That's it for this issue of World's End and even though shit is coming to a head............ I can't get over that the creators screwed up Johnny Grasyon's name again.  The majority of this book was alright but that glaring oversight just burns in my brain and at this point the entire inclusion to Dick Grayson in this series just comes off as unneeded.  Maybe he'll do something grand in the final issues of this series but I don't see that happening.......... You know what?  I really don't see a purpose to Green Lantern in this series either because every time he goes and does something it always turns out not to be enough and it goes to the Superman heroes to save the day......... Why is Green Lantern useless?  I just realized that this whole section just turned into a bitch fest and I don't want that.  This wasn't a bad issue, it just wasn't that good and it's only real redeeming factor comes from the excellent art that it had.  See you next week where we find out what Green Lantern will suck at next and if Dick Grayson can remember his son's name.

Bits and Pieces:

This is an action packed issue that manages to move the story along but the only thing that I can think about after reading it is that Dick Grayson's son's name has changed again.........It just really irks me.  I did really enjoy the art in this issue though and besides for characters coming up short and side stories that don't really do much, it was a half decent issue.  Hopefully by the end of the series Dick Grayson will remember what his son's name is.

5.7/10
