*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

Hey everyone, I'm getting my Sinestro review out on time this month!  It's a July miracle.......... That's a thing right?  Anyway, the last time we checked in on our favorite Fear Lantern, we saw that Sinestro had his hands full.  Not only was his daughter questioning his leadership skills....... and his ego, but he was also dealing with the fact that someone in his Corps betrayed him and activated a self destruct device embedded in the planet's core of New Korugar.  At least one of those was dealt with in the last issue because we saw that Sinestro because of Lyssa Drak's divination, was aware that something was about to happen to the Green Lantern Corps........... as we saw in Green Lantern and Green Lantern: Lost Army...... Yeah, I'd say something happened alright.  It's just too bad that with three titles about it, we still have no idea what actually went down.  So with with this knowledge, Sinestro fought his daughter Soranik and after handily defeating her, he took her Green Lantern ring and replaced it with one of his own.  Let's hope that Soranik doesn't freak out too much and that Sinestro can do something about his little meltdown problem.  Let's check it out.

Explain It!:

Our issue begins exactly how you think it would...........Soranik is freaking the hell out.  Now she isn't really ready to throw down with Sinestro since she's only a rookie when it comes to slinging fear, but man, if looks could kill, Sinestro would be as dead as Jim's dad........... or my dad......DADDY NO!  So Soranik gets the lowdown about how Sinestro has actually saved her from whatever fate befell the Green Lantern Corps because a minute after he snatched the ring from her finger, we see the ring disappear.  Sadly though, Sinestro only knew that something was going to happen to anyone wielding the green energy of will and has no real insights on what actually went down.  Hopefully Hal being all Lorenzo Lamas Renegade about it, will get to the bottom of this mystery so I can satiate my curiosity.

With all of that behind us, it's time to find out who the betrayer is and for Sinestro to put a stop to the planet's meltdown.  Initially it comes off like Bekka might be the one who behind it all, which would be weird since she's a New God and could easily just hack and slash her way through the Corps if she wanted to and luckily this was just a brief red herring.  After Bekka and Sinestro have words about why she's there and what Sinestro's ultimate plan is, we head on down to the planet's core right as it's about to blow and Sinestro unleashes Parallax.  Yeah, I loved Sinestro taming the fear entity and using it's power to be the biggest bad ass in the Universe, but as a final decree of his mastery of the entity, he has Parallax become bound with the planet, overriding the meltdown.  So if Bekka was the one who wanted to betray Sinestro she could easily kill him at that point because with Parallax gone, Sinestro is a bit weakened and even tells her that she can use the knowledge of him being separated from Parallax anyway she sees fit.  So yeah, Bekka's not the betrayer!  Woo!

In the end, with the the planet taken care of and Soranik calmed down mildly, we actually get to who the betrayer was, when Lyssa Drak, in the privacy of Sinestro's quarters, tells him that she was the one behind the meltdown and in a furious rage, Sinestro tells her that he's always known it was her and it breaks his heart..... Yeah, it's not exactly Godfather 2 about it, but it's close enough.  You see, she did this as a way for him to forget about saving his people and settling a planet because she believes he has greater things to worry about.  Not being one to let a sexy future seeing minx pay for her crimes, Sinestro publicly executes three innocent Fear Lantern for her crimes as a way to save face as someone who isn't to be trifled with.

That's it for this issue of Sinestro and I really dug this whole thing because it really shows Sinestro being the master tactician that we know him to be.  The series is changing now that the Green Lanterns are out of the picture and Sinestro plans on taking their place in every sector of the galaxy and it's really exciting to think about what this book could become.  It's like this issue decided that it wanted the series to become something else entirely and to do that it needed to show Sinestro's strengh, turn Soranik into a Yellow Lantern, get rid of Parallax and just seriously shove the badassery of Sinestro down your throat........ and whether this is just a gimmick to get people on the Sinestro trolley or not, it seriously worked on me and I'm fully back on board with this series that started feeling a little stale as of late.  I loved the art and colors of this book and I can't wait to see what Bunn has in store for us with his future plans for Sinestro and his Corps.  Definitely a issue that doesn't disappoint.

Bits and Pieces:

While the payoff to who betrayed Sinestro might not impress everyone, it certainly got my attention and really jammed the point home about how bad ass Sinestro is and what he's willing to do to get what he wants.  This issue really feels like a reset button for the series and if it is, then I'm certainly ready to find out what the new status quo for the title will be because I loved everything that Bunn gave us here.  Just a really cool character piece about who Sinestro is and who he'll be in the future with great art by the entire artistic team.  Go get some Sinestro now.

8.5/10
